Webs Weekly #3

There’s been a lot of talk recently about the number of guest appearances in the world of Spider-Man, as well as the number of teams he’s now a part of. Well, in this Webs Weekly entry I decided to focus on some of those team-ups. As it was pointed out in the last Webs Weekly, not all of the pictures will be entirely ‘fan art,’ but I will every now and then include some spotlights of pieces done by professional artists. Hopefully the professional artists are also fans, but it’s also a good way to keep the artwork varied and our options open resulting in more Webs Weekly entries. Don’t worry, the focus will still be on aspiring artists and fans, but some of the pros work is just too good to pass up sometimes.

Spidey vs. Hulk by Manarama (left, top)

I’ve always preferred the Spider-Man look to be a bit on the scrawny side. Muscular, sure, but still slim and smaller than how the average male hero is portrayed. Not only does Manarama capture that look, but it’s further emphasized when compared to the towering, brute Hulk. I’ve actually seen this picture featured someplace else online, and for good reason. The humor and the great coloring and shading of this piece deserves to be recognized. Manarama also has some other comic pieces featuring Deadpool, Cap and my new personal nemesis, Daredevil.

Black Spidey and Cat by chikinrise (right, top)

Black Cat is not as endowed in chikinrise’s rendition of Spidey’s favorite cat burglar. The lack of a milk bath, and other assets, may be appreciated by some fans who have not been pleased with how Felicia has been portrayed in recent Amazing Spider-Man comics. The dark duo look ready to take on the dangers of the night, or to team up in a figure skating competition. The style also reminds me of the animation found in those esurance commercials. Upon further investigation of chikinrise’s page, I found another fine Spidey team up picture I could have used in this entry, but I’ll save it for another time. chikinrise’s style is also applied to Street Fighter characters, Na’vi from Avatar and a humorous Spider-Duck mash-up.

SPIDERMAN: Marvel team up pencils by spiderguile and colors by ANDREA11179 (left, bottom)

Spider-Man isn’t the only person who likes to team-up with others. Plenty of artists on DeviantArt join forces to help each other out. spiderguile has lots of nice pencil drawings on his page featuring plenty of other superheroes from the Marvel Universe in addition to some Lord of the Ring characters. ANDREA11179’s page has lots of other colorful collaborations including one of Emma Frost with a brightly lit cityscape in the background, and Thor with a good amount of flashy lightning.

Spiderman vs Juggernaut by lorkalt (right, bottom)

Ok, so this isn’t necessarily a team-up. But I figured if I had one of the Serpent’s Worthy featured here I might as well include another one in Juggernaut. Spidey and Juggernaut haven’t always fought. For example, in a somewhat recent issue of Amazing they put their differences aside long enough to repair some of the damage one of their first battles caused. lorkalt has a lot of sketches where he is refining his craft and even a funny take on what the cover of Amazing Fantasy #15 would have looked like if Spidey had been more on the chubby side.

There you have it. Spidey and friends coming to our rescue and saving us from the Sinister Six that infested the last entry. Let me know if there are any Spider related images you’d like to see in the next entry.
