Happy 18th Birthday Crawlspace

13882242_10154186279310659_6179553220738874003_nIt’s hard to believe that this little website that I created back in college is now old enough to vote. And with this election season, every vote counts. I started the site back in 1998 with a Windows 95 computer and a dial up connection. I stumbled across geocities and it was offering a free website. All I had to do was learn html. I spent several hours hand writing the code and boom I had a website. The URL wasn’t www.spidermancrawlspace.com it was http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Vault/7930
Thanks to the Wayback machine you can take a look at what the site looked like back in 1999, it didn’t capture our first year.
Here’s the main page
Here’s the Amazing Spider-Man reviews
Here’s the News section
Everyone in 1999 had a guestbook, it seems it’s still working!
Here’s one of the only images I can find of the old message board.
Needless to say it’s come a long way. I want to thank my staff both past and present for all their hard work over the years. We’ve had millions and millions of people visit the site in the nearly two decades. I couldn’t have made this site continue for so long with out the visitors and the Crawlspace staff. You both rock and I sincerely appreciate it. I think the site is running as well as it’s ever run. We’ve got a new redesign, more daily content and reviewers and columnists than we’ve ever had. Who’s up for another 18 years?
Our podcast is also celebrating it’s 10th anniversary this month. We’ll have more on that in the coming days.

spideylogoI also stumbled across this old logo. It was designed by a graphic artist, but they forgot the hyphen. It was slick but it didn’t last long.
