Will DC and Marvel Collaborate and Show us Who Would Win the Ultimate Battle Between Spider-Man and Superman?

Last year cinemagoers were treated to an epic showdown between two of the most iconic comic book characters of all time in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film that kickstarted the DC Extended Universe has put the wheels in motion for a number of other films based on stars of DC Comics including Wonderwoman, The Flash, and Aquaman. DC Extended Universe is still a way behind the much better established Marvel Studios, but there is certainly scope for crossovers between the two comic book giants in the future.

Something that a lot of comic book fans may be hoping to see is a big screen adaptation of the classic Superman vs The Amazing Spider-Man series of graphic novels from 1976. With Marvel set to release Spider-Man: Homecoming  (see trailer below) this year after introducing the new actor (Tom Holland) who is playing the web-slinger in Captain America: Civil War, there is scope for a new series of films involving everyone’s favourite arachnid.

When Spider-Man came face to face with Superman in the first ever superhero crossover between Marvel Comics and DC Comics, and was billed “the greatest superhero teamup of all time.” Regardless of the title of the comic suggesting the two good guys would come to blows, they actually ended up joining forces to take down Lex Luthor and Doctor Octopus. This would certainly be exciting to see on the big screen, but it would also be interesting to see the two heroes face off in an original storyline, perhaps one involving some kind of epic showdown.

For modern audiences, Spider-Man is probably the better established of the two characters in cinema, with the most popular Superman films all taking place in the late 1970s and early 1980s. But Superman has always been a mainstay in pop culture and is also prevalent in gaming.

There have been 17 Superman games across various platforms throughout the last three decades, and multiple other titles featuring the Man of Steel. One of the current ways to play as the man from Krypton is the Superman online slot game. This is a 5-reel, 50 pay line slot that boasts comic book style graphics and a Save the World feature where players are tasked with tracking down Superman’s nemesis, Lex Luthor.

The 2013 film Man of Steel was a box office hit, and raked in $668 million despite receiving fairly negative reviews and a score of 55% on Rotten Tomatoes. Batman v Superman wasn’t well received either, and cinemagoers are now desperate to see Superman in a more entertaining adventure. A battle with Spider-man could be the ideal way to revamp this new incarnation of the man in the red cape. It would also surely be a box office sensation, pulling in fans of each character who are desperate to see who would prevail in a fight.

But who would win between the two superheroes? The smart money would probably be on Superman due to his unrivalled strength, but Spider-man is known to be cunning and quick on his feet- would the Man of Steel be able to catch him? There’s only one way to find out. Please Marvel and DC, get together again and make this happen.

Oh and let's just go ahead and get it out of the way.... you don't want to see who would win. You want to see Spider-Man beat Superman.

No interest. Because like BvS, they'd handicap him, otherwise, it wouldn't be much of a fight.

A potential (albeit, not very likely) Superman and Spider-Man team-up movie would be a lot of fun. Well, if Superman was allowed to be his bright and cheery self and not moody DCEU Superman. I'm not really into the idea of super-hero versus movies, I'd rather see the heroes team-up to take down villains. Green Goblin and Lex Luthor versus Spider-Man and Superman sounds great to me.
