Click on the pictures for the full image. This is originally from “Amazing Spider-Man” issue 303. Peter has a job offer that would take him out of New York, and due to him being married to (or now dating) Mary Jane, his priorities have now changed.

AmazingFantasy15To Preface this, reports came out yesterday that Kirby’s Kiddos wanted the rights to many of the Marvel Characters that were co-created by Stan and Jack during the 60s. The list wasn’t released, and it comes fresh off the heels of the Disney Acquisition. Below is from CBR’s Robot 6:

Spider-Man is, indeed, one of the Marvel characters listed in the 45 copyright-termination notices sent last week by the heirs of Jack Kirby.

With Sony Pictures among the list of recipients — along with Marvel, Disney, Fox, Universal and others — it seemed likely that Kirby’s four children were seeking a portion of the copyright to the wall-crawler (Sony holds the movie rights to the character in perpetuity). Now The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog confirms that after reviewing termination notices for Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four.

Wait. Didn’t Stan Lee and Steve Ditko create Spider-Man? Well … yes. However, Kirby was clearly involved in the early stages. The nature, and extent, of that involvement isn’t quite so clear.

“Web of Spider-Man” issue 73. Aunt May sure was lucky to get a catch like Willie Lumpkin. I wonder how she ever let him slip through her fingers.

This latest revision is from “Web of Spider-Man” issue 50. During this time period Peter and Mary Jane were living with Aunt May and her boarders. It’s a good thing Aunt May is so liberal.

amazingSpiderMan_604AMAZING SPIDER-MAN # 604

Writer: Fred Van Lente
Penciler: Barry Kitson
Inker: Rick Ketcham, Barry Kitson and Joe Rubenstein
Story Title: Red Headed Stranger: The Ancient Gallery

Plot

Peter freed. Search for a Chameleon. Attack of the Spider Slayers. Unexpected help. Peter has a girlfriend.

The Commentary

This was a very brisk issue. I almost want to write that the pacing was a little too quick for my tastes and given the story as a whole the ending seemed to just fly by. The first chapter seemed to be paced about right in terms of setting up the story and the second part really took it’s time to get into the Chameleon’s head and show us Van Lente’s new take on the character. It made for two very enjoyable issues and this third one ended things on a high note but I sort of wanted it to last just a bit longer.

After a Fraction-full two issues, we get back to the normal creative team of Bendis and Deodato on Dark Avengers. The crossover with X-Men is over, so now we get a crossover with the Secret Warriors! Don’t worry fans, this is still very firmly Bendis’ Dark Avengers.

After all, we do have a conversation around the breakfast table.

It goes to show you. I’m lucky to break 10 comments with “Spidey Memories” or “Finding Gwen Stacy” but I retcon a scene or two the comments explode. This usually won’t be done twice in a day, but it deserved an encore. Remember, if you want to see the full image, click on it and it will blow up. This scene from “Amazing Spider-Man” issue 406 is very emotional. Peter and Mary Jane really are fascinated by her bowel movements.

115853__spideyaunt_lActress Rosemary Harris will be reading stories to little kids at an upcoming performance in New York. The performance is on September 26th at 11:30am.Tickets are only $10 and it’d be fun to see the actress that brought Aunt May to life in the movies. Here’s a link where you can buy tickets.

If anyone has been missing the Skype chats, you’ve been missing alot. One of the games we’ve recently come up with on the Skype chat is taking selected scenes from Spidey’s history and revising them to fit the “Brand New Day” timeline. Take this above picture, from Spectacular Spider-Man issue 194, for instance. How does this work in a world where Peter and Mary Jane were never married. Let’s find out..

Whoila! Continuity problem solved. More gems like these will be a regular feature now by popular demand. Fixing Marvel’s continuity one panel at a time.
