AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #669 (JUL110617)
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #669 YOU’RE SPIDER-MAN VARIANT (JUN118145)
Written by DAN SLOTT

Pencils & Cover by HUMBERTO RAMOS

Variant Cover by TODD NAUCK

FOC – 8/22/11, ON SALE – 9/14/11

You have to give Marvel credit for being creative for this marketing. If a retailer increased their normal orders by 150% they could then get a picture on the front page of Amazing Spider-Man # 666. Not only did they have to increase their numbers, but they also had to order an additional 500 copies of the variant with their picture on it.

Dave Kruseski owns the Hero’s Comics and Cards in Connecticut. He usually only orders 40 copies of the book. So if my math is correct he’ll have 600 copies of Amazing in his store. His son Ben is on the cover of the book and little Ben has been signing autographs. What do you  think of this latest Marvel promotion? (more…)

We wrap up the rest of the message board questions in this episode. Here are some highlights on this show:

Hola, Spider-Faithful! Venom #5 was released today, but I thought you might appreciate a change of pace. Instead of reviewing the flavor of the moment, I will be taking a look back at one of the legendary Venom stories of yore. That’s right—it’s a good old fashioned retro review! So join me in my time machine as I travel back to a simpler time in comics history and review the now-classic Venom #3!

Ah, yes. The time was May, 2011. The USA had finally killed Osama, doomsday predictions were proven false, and kids across the nation were “grooving” to Katy Perry’s hit single, “E.T.” Speaking of which, go back and listen to that track to put yourself in the proper context. The part where Kanye West eloquently rhymes “I abducted you” with “I tell you what to do” to convey his intention to “disrobe” and “probe” the song’s protagonist truly captures the innocence of the era. Ironically, Venom #3 also features an extraterrestrial, the alien symbiote. Coincidence? Alas, we may never know.

VENOM #3

“Web of Death!”

WRITER: Rick Remender

ART: Tom Fowler

COLORS: John Rauch

LETTERS: Joe Caramagna

Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso (left) took time at the San Diego Comic Con to show his love of the Crawlspace.

Also Venom and X-Force writer Rick Remender (right) covered his short-box and showed some Crawlspace love.

What’s up web slingers, long time no see? Last time in Ultimate Fallout we saw Steve Rogers telling Aunt May that he’s to blame for her nephew’s death. Did she take that kind of news kindly? Well by now you know that answer so I’ll just say, “no, she doesn’t.” That plus Rogue and Thor look at death in their own perspectives (or do I mean Chris Hemsworth?) Don’t know what I’m talking about? Well, click that more tag and read the review.

Ultimate Fallout #2

Writers: Brian Michael Bendis, Jonathan Hickman & Nick Spencer
Artists: Gabriel Hardman, Bryan Hitch & Lee Garbett
Inkers: Paul Neary & Roger Bonet
Colorists: Frank Martin, Paul Mounts & Guru eFX
Letterer: VC’s Cory Petit
Cover: Bryan Hitch, Paul Neary & Paul Mounts

Story: Captain America – Bendis, Hardman & Martin
Aunt May doesn’t take what Steve Rogers told her too kindly and asks him why it’s his fault that Peter is dead. Steve says that he told Peter that he wasn’t ready to be a hero, that he was a child and that he hadn’t earned the right to wear the uniform yet and then tells her about the gun shot that was intended for him but instead Peter took it instead. Being a dissertation [or poor attempt at humor] in multiple parts by one semi-crazed Spider-Man fan.
About the author: Lee Swain, or “Parabolee” as he goes by on the internets, is the newest addition to the Crawlspace blogging crew. A life long Spider-Man fan that has wasted a good part of his life creating webcomics and blogging about really nerdy trivia. His turn-ons include: Spandex, continuity and red heads. Turn-offs include: Rubber, retcons and Carlie Cooper.

The new Spider-Man movie is creeping closer to release. And while still a year away from hitting our screens, we have now seen the first trailer and gotten a good look at the new costume. Unfortunately the more I see, the more convinced I am that this movie is going to be bad. So I have taken it upon myself to write a lengthy analysis and explanation as to why this will be.

First of all, allow me to clarify that I am well aware that there are people that are not that invested in the comic book Spider-Man, and that I know those people are not going to care if the movie makers take a crap on who he’s supposed to be in the new movie.

And so from where they stand the new movie might be all sorts of awesome. Allow me also to further clarify my opinion, and say this: I don’t care how they feel about MY movie.

Yes that’s right I said MY movie, because you see I’m a life long Spider-Man fan, a hardcore have-read-every-issue-of-Amazing-Spider-Man fan (not a boast, just a fact) and I feel I to some extent, I own him (and other Spidey fans too I guess).

EDIT – That is to say that I feel I own Spidey, not other Spidey fans. That would be weird.

Let us begin… (more…)

Former Amazing Spider-Man artist Todd McFarlane recently talked with CBR and made some good points on the comic industry.

Ok I’m sure the PR folks planned this, but Garfield delivered a very nice speech about our favorite hero. Well done sir!

Clark Gregg aka Agent Coulson from the Marvel movies surprised everyone at the Cup O’ Joe panel. Folks, this wasn’t an easy picture to get . I snuck behind a curtain, got in big trouble with security  and they almost took my camera/phone away. I was fast!

‘RAWR!!’

Or more correctly Rhys Ifans, who plays Curt Connors (aka the Lizard) in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot movie, was cited for misdemeanor battery at the San Diego Comic-Con for an altercation between himself and a female security guard.

From the L.A. Times:

According to Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department, Ifans was on his way to his panel and one of the members of his entourage didn’t carry the proper credentials to get into the backstage area for Hall H. When a female security guard challenged him about the passes, the actor was “rude, belligerent, hostile and struck the security guard in the chest, pushed passed her and went in to do his panel,” Brown said.

Following the panel, the security guard issued a misdemeanor citation for battery.

The guard, a privately employed officer, issued a citizen’s arrest because the alleged offense was not committed in the presence of a police officer. The attack did not require the guard to obtain additional care.

The story was first reported on the website The Wrap.

Sony spokesman Steve Elzer issued the following statement regarding the event: “Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ panel. Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans, who deeply regrets this incident.”

Ifans flew out of San Diego Friday evening, and it is unclear whether the city of San Diego will press charges. According to Lt. Brown, that decision will be left up to the city attorney.

Yesterday morning, Zach and Stella attended the Marvel Digital Panel.

The Panel Began with ta show of Marvel Superheroes ‘What The?” starring Professor X and Magneto.

One of the goals of Marvel Digital in general is to connect with the audience via social media. IE Facebook, Twitter.

The weekly Watcher has become the Watcher. Marvel produced a new Music Video that has a song for the show. It should be up on Marvel.com soon, but they had not posted the video online.

They then gave a History of Digital Comics:

Debuted on November13th 2007.

Over 10,000 available on PC. 25 added weekly.

2000 are available on the Marvel iOS app, and 40 are added weekly.

DAY AND DATE RELEASE:

Actually helps retailers sell more hard copies.

Started with the Hulk, Schism and Ultimate line.

Next Up: in August Spider-Man, with Spider-Island, then the tie in books and Venom.

In Oct: X-Men line starting with Uncanny #1.

More and more Date and Day release will happen as we progress towards the Avengers Movie.

There will be a synergy between the Mobile App and the Computer version.

Donovan continues his quest to have hot women hold the Crawlspace sign. He is now two for two. LOL

Zach, Stella, Don and Bertone found some friends at the shuttle station.

Joe Quesada gave the Crawlspace some love for the second year in a row. Last year he gave a great interview to Bertone. You can listen to it below.

Stella is covering the news for the Crawlspace and had a chance to snap a picture next to the new Amazing Spider-Man movie costume. Very cool!

Bertone is awesome and was able to snap this picture of Mark Hamil holding a Crawlspace sign. You of course know him as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars movies, but he also voiced the Hobgoblin in the 90s Spider-Man cartoon. Great job buddy!

Over the next few days, Ill be posting the Online Diary. For the record: Parts of this were written on the plane, so forgive the change in tense.
