No really. If you had asked me what actors might realistically consider playing The Rhino in a feature film, the first thing I would have done would probably be to remove the Oscar nominees from the list. And yet, The Hollywood Reporter tells us that the two-time Golden Globe winner is indeed in talks to play the Russian powerhouse in Amazing Spider-Man 2. And it turns out Giamatti has expressed interest in the character before:
“I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid,” he told ShowbizSpy in March 2011. “It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me…If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.”
Also in talks for a role in the film is 29-year-old English actress Felicity Jones. We don’t know what role she’s negotiating for, but I figured it was good enough reason to throw up a photo for you, Crawlspace fans.
So what are your thoughts? In a world where we already have an Oscar winner confirmed to play Electro, could it be time for an Oscar nominated Rhino?
