BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT! Based on your comments from yesterday, I will continue doing Banana Pants as a front page feature. However, today will be the last daily update. From here on out, this will be much more sporadic, to keep things fresh. But when you least expect it . . . the time will be ripe! In the meantime, feel free to post your own on on this message board thread.
THERE’S MORE AFTER THE JUMP!
Today I am working with suggestions I’ve been given. To start us off, Josh Bertone suggested I check to see if the line showed up in Peter and Mary Jane’s wedding vows. I looked back at the issue and . . . no way . . . it can’t be!
But it’s true! Herbiepopnecker recommended the iconic “Spider-Man no more” scene, and I noticed the same thing on the cover! Has the current status quo been in place longer than we thought?

Donovan Grant pointed out that the “banana pants” phrase is so intertwined with Peter Parker’s character that it has been adapted into other media.
George Berryman thought Aunt May should get in on the banaction.
And finally, MK thought that perhaps Peter uttered the line after he found out he was a clone. He did, and it wasn’t his proudest moment.

Jokes getting kinda old.

@2 I’ll tell you what’s getting old… Slott’s take on Spidey. This guy needs a mature take that doesn’t read like a rejected character from ‘The Big Bang Theory.’ Compare the mature, married Spidey of JM DeMatteis who struggled with issues like his best friend going insane, marital tension and learning to say goodbye to loved ones. He cracked jokes, but he wasn’t a joke himself. Now we have a zany, hipster man-child who is apparently genius, yet talks like his IQ is in the low 50′s. This book desperately needs a creative turnover.

@2, yesterday would have been the last one if people hadn’t voted overwhelmingly for this to continue. I asked people to vote and out of 11 comments, only one said he didn’t want to see it on the front page any more. But I am going to take a break to give myself a chance to think of some new twists on it.

#1 – Yes.
#2 – No.
#3 – Yes, squared.
#4 – You are a gentleman, counselor.

@4 Here’s a few: Peter finds out his parents are robots… “crazy town banana pants.” Peter goes mental afterwards. “Peter Parker is dead… I… AM… THE… BANANA PANTS!” Peter watches Gwen Stacy fall off a bridge and break her neck. “Why, that’s absolutely crazy town snapped neck banana pants!” Peter unmasks on live TV during ‘civil war’ “You may know me as that idiot who says crazy town banana pants…” Kraven buries Spidey alive… just another crazy pants banana town day. Ugh I can barely type that out without wretching. I wonder if Slott had a sense of accomplishment after typing that dumb phrase. I would actually prefer to think he’s just phoning it in now, rather than think that’s something he actually spent time and thought concocting. .

@2: “Jokes getting kinda old.”
Really? Cause I just checked with God and he says the Crazy Town Banana Pants pics are his new favorite part of the website.

Hope to see the idea I PM’d – or did you get it?
Might be a different version of the pic I’m thinking of,
considering what I’m seeing here.

Your pm asked for the “cover” with him walking away from the trash can. That trash can image is actually in the interior art. I went with the actual cover to the issue because it had an early appearance of “Ghost Peter,” saying his famous catch phrase. In my judgment, it was the funnier one to go with, again because it had the “ghost.” I don’t think I’ll do the trash can image because honestly I don’t know how I’d execute it. I’m trying to make sure each time I do this, I’m putting a new spin on it.

@ #16 Dang, man!! Spoilers! Oh, well….
February 6th, 2013 at 9:09 am
@ #12….wait…never mind!

@Andrew: Dan did make Peter into a man-child. This is the kind of person that Mary Jane would have rejected a long time ago.
