Author ArchiveThe introduction to Mattie Franklin from “Amazing Spider-Man” issue 441 . This was the final issue of the series before it was rebooted to back to issue 1 and we are straight in the middle of the “Gathering of the Five/Final Chapter” mess. As some of us know, Mattie had a role in the recent “Grim Hunt” storyline so be warned of spoilers in the comment section! Didn’t we just have one-shot like this? Betty’s comment is helps with a constant debate that comes up among fandom. No Cissy, Peter doesn’t remember you and neither do any of the fans. Mary Jane’s comment….well I’m not even going to go there!

Amazing Spider-Man Presents: American Son#1 review (with slideshow)Posted by: Bertone in Reviews, Spider-Man Mini-SeriesBack in the 70′s, when Marvel first published “Spectacular Spider-Man”, they jokingly informed the readers that they wouldn’t be diluting the waters by giving him as many spinoffs as Superman has. One example that they made was that they wouldn’t be giving Harry his own series. It’s 2010, and things have changed..

The Many Loves of the Amazing Spider-Man # 1 review and slideshowPosted by: Bertone in ReviewsCOVER BY: Rafael Alberquerque Those of you who couldn’t read this because it was “digital only”, turn that frown upside down! The former “digital exclusive” comic is now being released as a print series. Worth it? Tomorrow afternoon I’ll be interviewing Fred Van Lente at a Free Comic Book Day event. I’ll be acting as Brad’s Florida correspondent. The question thread is open, but we haven’t received many fan questions yet. Be sure to get them in before tomorrow afternoon. Props to Thomas Matis for showing me that Van Lente would be in town. Now everyone scroll down and read George’s awesome “Friday Night Fights” segment! In the spirit of giving the people what they want, “Peter/MJ week” continues! Amazing Spider-Man issue 193 is often touted as the issue where Peter and Mary Jane break up. Really what we see above is MJ’s full appearance in the issue. We don’t even get to see both of her eyes! Just that one line and (aside from a few cameos) she’s out of the book for years! To be fair the breakup was a slow burn that started ten issues earlier when she turned down his proposal of marriage. Well Peter doesn’t seem stressed out because his consolation prize just walked in. In the spirit of giving the people what they want, “Peter/MJ week” continues! Going backwards a bit from yesterday, here is Peter and Mary Jane’s first kiss. One of my favorite first kisses in comics ever. I love how Robbie is so obviously looking at them out of the corner of his eye. This classic moment can be found in “Amazing Spider-Man” issue 143 and is collected in the “Clone Genesis” trade paperback. In the past I’ve tried to avoid some Peter/MJ heavy selections for “Spidey Memories” so we’d avoid a “marriage flame war”. With all the OMIT talk I figured it’s time to give the people what they want. So here begins a week of Peter/MJ heavy “Spidey Memories”. This one is from “Amazing Spider-Man” issue 149 and is a much cited scene. It’s the conclusion of an emotional journey of Peter’s where he moves past the memory of Gwen (albeit through her clone) and is ready to start a relationship with MJ. Some speculate that this panel has them starting an “adult relationship”. Some interesting tidbits.. * Some message board posters have been speculating that perhaps this takes place during the “Back in Black” period. This won’t be the case. This will expand upon the events of the “Amazing Spider-Man” Annual 21. There will also be some current continuity and “One More Day” stuff in there. * Joe wasn’t originally going to write this but he had an idea over what some of the “answers” were going to be. He came up with the basic plot structure about a year ago. * Every lingering questions (mindwipe, the whisper, etc) will be answered. Check out the full story and interview over at CBR. Tom Defalco recently spoke with Newsarama to promote the upcoming relaunch of Spider-Girl. One notable tidbit stood out for me. Nrama: Has there been any thought of just moving Spider-Girl to the present time and having her deal with life in the current Marvel universe the way Marvel Girl and Cable have been used? DeFalco: Yes. Joe Quesada, Tom Brevoort, Tom Brennan, Ron Frenz and I have occasionally discussed the idea of transferring Mayday to the current and so-called ‘real’ Marvel Universe. Unfortunately, I think that a big part of Mayday’s appeal is because she has a large supporting cast — each with their own histories, hang-ups and conflicts — and we couldn’t possibly bring them all with us. Also, since Mayday could no longer interface with her dad, mom or baby brother in the real MU, the series would become about her efforts to return home. It’s an interesting creative challenge. Ron Frenz and I are still working on a solution and we think we’re getting close… ——————- Interesting stuff. I know there has been talks of bringing Mayday into the regular Marvel continuity for some time, but Tom Defalco hasn’t seem enthusiastic about the idea. I’m not sure I like the idea either. Spider-Girl belongs in the MC2 Universe. Having here appear in the 616 Universe would just confuse things too much. What do you guys think? We recently discussed Josh, an obscure “Amazing Spider-Man” character who Greg Weisman revived in his Flash Thompson backup story from “Amazing Spider-Man” issue 622. As I said then, Josh wasn’t the only obscure character brought back. I thought it would be fun to take a look at the rest of them. You can see Flash saying hello to Jason and Tiny in the above picture. I was originally going to spotlight Jason and Tiny together but while preparing the slideshow, I decided Jason had so much story that he deserved his own spotlight. Who is this Jason?
This may be the end of the Logan Lerman rumors. Ever since the Spider-Man reboot was announced, Leeman was a favorite choice for many as the new Peter Parker. Leeman even spoke about the prospect to various reporters and on a few talk shows. Sony made a statement today which should put a stop to this. A few websites got a tip that nobody has been cast and no negoitations have been made. We did get another name in the running if MovieWeb is to be trusted. They were told that although no choice has been made, Angus T. Jones (pictured above from “Two and a Half Men”) has been considered. It’s probably a joke. I hope it’s a joke.
