Much has been made in the recent past of the question, “What is Spider-Man about?” Tom Brevoort famously declared in his Spider-Man Manifesto, which became the bible of Brand new Day, that Spider-Man was not about responsibility, but about youth.
But a related – nay, identical – debate cropped up even before that manifesto hit the web. Should Spider-Man grow and change?
This became mostly a debate between those “pro-marriage” and “anti-marriage.” In one corner, Joe Quesada said fans that want Spider-Man married are selfish and want him to grow old and die with them. In the other, marriage fans said that growth is integral to the character, and forcing Peter back into never-ending single-hood is tantamount to character assassination.
Sadly, because of One More Day, it seems almost all debates about what is or is not good for the character of Spider-Man have become “pro-marriage” vs. “anti-marriage” debates. This does a disservice to some topics, pigeon-holing the issue and branding fans on a side of the debate they may not have thought about past, “I’m with them.”
As you hopefully know by now (since I’ve been shamelessly plugging for weeks), this site’s original script series, Spider-Man: Crawl Space, is releasing an issue every Wednesday that Marvel releases a part of the “OMIT” storyline. You may remember that part 2 of OMIT slipped on the schedule from July 28th to August 4th, so Crawl Space #10 followed suit.
Well, here we are again. According to marvel.com, OMIT part 3 (ASM #640) will now be released on August 18th instead of its originally solicited release date of August 11th. SO, what that means to you Crawl Spacers is Spider-Man: Crawl Space #11, “One in a Million Part 3 of 3,” will ALSO now be released on August 18th.
For now that’s the only new schedule change. I’ll keep checking Marvel.com to make sure, as I’m wondering the same thing all of you probably are – if all four parts are by the same creative team and parts 2 and 3 have each slipped a week – will part 4 really be on time? It’s a nail biter! Keep it tuned to the Crawl Space, and we’ll bring you word as soon as it comes if there are any more changes!
Spider-Man: Crawl Space is a series of comic scripts exclusive to this website telling new, original stories of Spider-Man in the original timeline with his wife, Mary Jane Parker.
Recently I committed to deliver a new issue of Crawl Space every Wednesday that drops an issue of Marvel’s “OMIT,” and we’re here to deliver!
Following the landmark events of “Spider-Man Black,” Peter Parker is powerless. And forces he knows nothing about have manipulated events to get to this point. Now, even as Peter takes the reins of Oscorp and announces a bold initiative for the company, New York City is under siege – a siege of Spider-Men! Featuring Mary Jane Parker, Carlie Cooper, half of the Fantastic Four, a special guest Crawl Spacers will recognize, more clones than you can shake a holofoil variant at, and introducing Black Cat to the supporting cast! If you’re a Spider-Fan, you can’t afford to miss “One in a Million Part 1 – It’s Raining (Spider-)Men!”
Since I announced that I would be matching Marvel’s “One Moment in Time” issue-for-issue with Spider-Man: Crawl Space, I’ve been paying close attention to the release schedule on marvel.com. Today I’ve discovered that the release date of Amazing Spider-Man #639, “One Moment in Time Part 2,” has been changed from the originally solicited date of July 28 to August 4. All other issues have remained on their originally solicited dates.
So, what does this mean to you? Spider-Man: Crawl Space #10, “One in a Million Part 2,” will also now be released on August 4. But fear not, true believers! The rest of the schedule remains the same. We’re still just one week away from the release of the much-anticipated Spider-Man: Crawl Space #9, “One in a Million Part 1!”
For anyone that missed the original story and may be wondering what in the heck I’m talking about, I’ve reprinted the entire original story after the jump.
This July and August, a different kind of gauntlet will be thrown down for The Amazing Spider-Man to face.
These months will bring the “One Moment in Time” or “OMIT” four-part storyline in Amazing Spider-Man #638-641, a follow-up to “One More Day” written by Joe Quesada with art by Quesada and Paolo Rivera. Considering the results of the infamous “OMD,” “OMIT” seems to be poised to renew the frustrations of a large group of Spider-Man fans already disenfranchised by “One More Day.”
So this site’s original, script-only web-series, Spider-Man: Crawl Space, which is set in the original continuity and features Peter and Mary Jane Parker as a married couple, is issuing an official challenge to “One Moment in Time.”
In July and August, Spider-Man: Crawl Space will match “One Moment in Time” issue-for-issue. Every Wednesday that brings an issue of “One Moment in Time” will also bring an issue of Spider-Man: Crawl Space. This way, fans unhappy with “One Moment in Time” will still have a source of original Spider-Man material to turn to with each new chapter. Fans can compare one-to-one and decide for themselves which is better – married or left at the alter.
Continue after the jump for more on this unprecedented Spider-Man initiative!
The Hollywood Reporter claims to have a short list of 5 actors being considered for the role of Spider-Man in the upcoming reboot movie. Newsarama posted the info and thankfully added headshots of the actors to help illustrate just how awful these choices really are. Seriously – awful.
Click on the article above for the photos and some idea of who these people are, since you probably don’t recognize any of these names (for good reason).
Many of you know our poster who goes by the handle of “bdog.” You probably know him as the legendary official colorist of everything remotely spidermancrawlspace.com related.
Behind the scenes, bdog is an absolute Goliath (with no sling shots in sight!), working generally under insane deadlines to make people like Spideydude, spidertour02, Enigma_2099, Hambone, and myself look good. Nay, look freaking sexy. He’s an incredible colorist of professional caliber who works tirelessly and completely for free. He has an amazingly generous spirit, and never asks anything in return for all he does for us and this site. We couldn’t ask for a better friend or collaborator.
Today, May 4th, is bdog’s 16th birthday. We wanted to do something special for the big guy on such a momentous occasion, and Mr. Gerard Delatour II came storming in with this tremendous piece of art to the left (click for full size). Our friend bdog hails from the great white north, so this piece, entitled “Oh Canada,” boasts a sexy Mountie, a moose head, a hunting rifle, a Canadian flag, and the Aurora Borealis. It is uncolored as a sign of respect that nobody else we could have gotten could have done the job like the man himself. (Bdog, you do not have to color this! Step away from the iPad!)
So on this auspicious occasion, please leave your birthday wishes for bdog in the comments section below. He’s been very good to all of us, so take a second to let him know how appreciated he is.
Bdog, from all the admins and myself, Happy 16th, buddy! We love ya!
At long last, Crawl Space is back! If you hadn’t heard, this site has its own original Spider-Man comic script series, restoring the original timeline to tell fresh, new stories of the Spider-Man we all know and love with his wife, Mary Jane Parker.
And now, finally, our first full arc comes to an end with “Spider-Man Black Part 6: Fade to Green!” You’ve probably seen a lot of comic book covers that say “This one’s got it all!” but I’m here to tell ya, this one really does. The climactic battle between Spider-Man and the Black Spider! Harry Osborn meets Sarah Stacy! Not one but TWO identity reveals, as the Black Spider’s mysterious friend is unmasked and the “man on the phone” makes his full appearance! Plus: Flash and Carlie, Peter and MJ, and just what was in Harry’s lab in issue #1? All this and more at the link!
If you’re one that pays attention to the little bar up top, you may have noticed that this review was not posted by usual ASM reviewer Michael Bailey, but by me, Kevin Cushing.
If you don’t know me, I’m a co-host of the Spider-Man Crawl Space Podcast, an administrator on the message board, the writer of Spider-Man: Crawl Space, and former reviewer of Amazing Spider-Man (among many other titles, back around pre-Civil War era). But none of these things is the reason I’m filling in for Mr. Bailey on this review. No, the reason you’re hearing from me is that I am a fan of Morbius. One of the biggest, some might say. My original username on this very board (and many others) was, in fact, Morbius. As such, I was extremely excited to see ol’ disco shirt returning to the pages of ASM, and begged Brad and Michael shamelessly to let me step in here for one issue and give my two cents. After certain photographs were brought up, the two graciously acquiesced. So you’re stuck with me for one issue. But fear not! Michael Bailey shall return for ASM #623!
MORBIUS FACT: Morbius has not appeared in a Spider-Man comic since 2004′s Spectacular Spider-Man #14. Since then, he has appeared in a Legion of Monsters: Morbius one shot, Marvel Zombies 3 and 4 (both written by this issue’s writer, Fred Van Lente), and is currently appearing in Punisher. Van Lente will reportedly carry Morbius’ story from here into Marvel Zombies 5.
Our very own BertoneBeatle has posted a review of this site’s official Spider-Man series, Spider-Man: Crawl Space, at his Spider-Man Examiner site. Give it a look at the url below!
I do believe this is the first “official” review of Crawl Space, so thanks to Bertone for taking the time. Make sure to check out the rest of his articles while you’re there. He’s been a major contributer to this site for some time now with features like the fan favorite Spider-Memories, and he does a great job of keeping up with the Spidey news at Examiner.
He’s also a contender to replace Alex Trebek on Jeopardy, I hear, though there’s some worry that his questions may be too difficult for the contestants.
For those of you that haven’t heard, this website has an original, ongoing, fan made webseries starring our favorite webslinger in brand new adventures set firmly within the original continuity. No history has been washed away, but Spider-Man is once again married to his beautiful and loving wife, Mary Jane Parker.
In “Spider-Man Black Part 5 – Goblins Fill My Skies,” you’ll finally learn the true plan of the Black Spider. You’ll witness the first brutal battle between the Goblin King and the Grey Goblin. You’ll see what MJ, Flash, and Carlie are doing during all this. And you’ll even hear a few familiar voices from the Marvel Universe at large. This one’s been a long time coming, so sit back, grab a Mountain Dew in honor of BD, and enjoy!
Thought Comic Con was over? Not here at the Crawl Space! You (many of you) submitted the questions, and I’m here to answer them. With all the great questions, this turned into a nearly 70 minute (that’s feature length!) video Q&A session. It’s presented on the board in its entirety in 7 parts. There are lots of teases, insights, and some big announcements inside, so grab a drink, relax, and enjoy! And tell me what you think about all these revelations right in the thread! http://spidermancrawlspace.com/wwwboard/viewtopic.php?p=71848#71848
Hello there fellow Crawl Spacers! Thanks to the wonderful talents our poster bdog, we now have seven new banners for Spider-Man: Crawl Space, the original script series by me, Kevin Cushing. Patterned on the style of the Civil War and Secret Invasion banner campaigns, these banners can be added to your signature on this or any other message board, or even added to a website! So please, take one and spread the word all across the internet!
This is just a sampling. There are a whole six more banners after the jump!

Spider-Man: Crawl Space #6 is part 4 of our first full arc, Spider-Man Black. Last issue ended with the shocking revelation that the Black Spider is Simon Parker, brother of Peter Parker. In this issue, "Richard and Mary Parker: Agents of SHIELD," find out his true history and what’s led him to this point!
Hey everybody, I just posted an 8 page Spider-Man: Crawl Space Valentine’s Day Special on the boards. Unfortunately there’s no cover to share for this one because it’s just a little something I cooked up in two hours, but I hope you all enjoy it! Happy Valentine’s Day from Spider-Man: Crawl Space!

Spider-Man: Crawl Space #5 is the third chapter in the first full arc, Spider-Man Black. Last issue saw the destruction of the Daily Bugle at the hands of the Faceless Man. For a job well done, his employer, The Black Spider, rewarded him with his identity – The Grey Goblin aka Gabriel Stacy!
Now Harry Osborn is returning to the States to find Gabriel, the Bugle is faced with rebuilding, and Gabe is going to have to deal with who he really is. Find out for yourself in Spider-Man Black Part 3: Shades of Grey!

Brad suggested I make a post on the main page to feature this beautiful variant cover by Scott J. Larson (pictured on the left), so of course I took the opportunity to shamelessly promote Crawl Space #4 again!
Spider-Man: Crawl Space #4 is the second part of our first full arc, “Spider-Man: Black.” Last issue, The Faceless Man’s employer was revealed as a mysterious man in a black Spider-Man costume calling himself The Black Spider. He tasked The Faceless Man with carrying out the next stage of his plan: blowing up The Daily Bugle!
This issue finds our favorite staffers at the Bugle held hostage by The Faceless Man, who is at his wits end without the knowledge of who he is. Over in Paris, Harry Osborn is trying to track down his half-brother, and by the end of this issue he may do just that. And as our webslinger is about to come face to face with The Black Spider, he must first overcome the terrifying menace of – ! Well, you’ll see. You’re already clicking on the link, aren’t you?

In this third monthly installment we finally meet the man who hired Killshot to assassinate Aunt May back in issue 1 (he’s the guy pictured in that wonderfully creepy cover by Ted Brandt and Brandon DP to the left). We also get a chance to meet his employer, who will be a major player soon. This is part 1 of Spider-Man: Crawl Space’s first full arc, entitled “Spider-Man Black.” You’ll see why once you read the issue. We also witness Norman Osborn’s final plan for Peter Parker following his death in issue 2. And if that wasn’t enough, can you say double date?
It’s a jam packed 22 pages that is only the smallest taste of what’s to come in this 6 part arc. It’s a story I’ve had kicking around in my head for years now, and I’m very excited to finally let it out for your edification. Please take a few minutes to give it a read, and make sure to let me know what you think after!
