Marc Webb teased another villain may be in the Amazing Spider-Man sequel. It’s a villain called the Gentleman. He only appeared in the trilogy prose novels called The Gathering of the Sinister Six. The Gentleman has a connection to Spidey’s parents and even enslaved Pity, which was rumored to be Peter’s sister. The books are awesome little known Spider-Classics.

Just chiming in to say I’ve read the first book because of this article and I loved it! Reading the second and third.
The only other Spidey prose novel I’ve read before is ‘The Darkest Hour’ which I also loved.

To the people complaining about this movie: Marc Webb addresed that in terms of villians, Electro will be the main focus for this movie. Apparently, Rhino won’t be in the film that long and only serves to set up things for the future (Sinister Six perhaps). The Gentleman will probably just be in the background for this movie. I am atcually 100% sure that he was the “Man in the Shadows” that spoke to Conners at the end of the first film and he will probably be behind the formation of the Sinister Six and has something to do with Peter’s parents. It is really cool that The Gentleman is getting some love. I loved the “Gathering of the Sinister Six” trilogy. I hope Adam-Troy Castro gets to write Spider-Man again someday.
Nice! The Sinister Six novels were definitely great reads, and it would be nice for them to get more attention. Perhaps a movie tie-in would warrant a reprinting for Spidey fans to rediscover the classic book trilogy?

Adam Troy-Castro was one of the most enjoyable writers of the late ’90s/early ’00s line of Marvel novels. His writing showed strong characterization and plot, and he “got” the humor of Spider-Man. These novels proved it.
His short story “The Stalking of John Doe” from the Untold Tales of Spider-Man anthology (edited by Stan Lee and Kurt Busiek) was also very good.
Now this is just sounding ridiculous – Electro, Rhino, Vulture, the Goblin, Black Cat (presumably) AND the Gentleman??? Why don’t they just throw in Doc Ock too for good measure.
Movie is on questionable ground as is…but yes, this trilogy was very good…most of the novel versions pre OMD were quite excellent…”Darkest Hours” by Jim Butcher is easily my favorite.
I don’t buy it – the movie’s already too crowded.
Loved these books; nailed the characterisations for Peter as both Peter and Spider-Man (and MJ gets to beat up Chameleon again IIRC which never gets old).
