Timestorm 2009/2099 #3 Review

Sorry about the extreme lateness of this review. Illness and going abroad straight after got in the way. I’ll try to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

PLOT:
We start by seeing why Jake Gallows (Punisher 2099) hates super-heroes so much, it’s because he thinks that they killed his family. In the present day (or the 2099 day, whatever), Tyler Stone is deeply distressed over the whole “his son turning into a human scorpion” thing.

Spider-Man 2099 and the Human Torch escape the Ultimate Combat Arena and meet up with our time’s Spider-Man (who is currently playing the mature adult role).

Halfway across the globe, Wolverine (2009) and Ghost Rider (2099) are chatting about the end of the world during tea with Doctor Room. Takes all kinds, I suppose. Then Cerebra freaks out after Dr O’Hara messes with the machine that Tyler Stone was using to control the Punisher. Convoluted enough yet? No? Well, the years 2009 and 2099 have just merged, letting a bunch of future Hulks enter present day Manhattan.

LIKES:
-Art is solid.

DISLIKES:
-Very boring.
-Don’t care about any of the characters.
-Having to write 2009 or 2099 several times in one review.

THOUGHTS:
There’s not much I can say that I haven’t said already. This mini-series has been disappointing in all senses of the word and just hasn’t made an interesting plot. It’s just elaborate and long-winded when it doesn’t need to be. Spider-Man and Wolverine in the future, Punisher in the present, the new Spider-Man, Alchemex with Tyler Stone and Lyla, the Ultimate Combat Arena and Ghost Rider 2009’s past. All of this is squeezed together with non of the storylines getting much time, apart from Miguel becoming the new Spider-Man, and that isn’t even done well.

The first Spider-Man 2099 wasn’t Peter Parker. Nowhere near. He was selfish, arrogant and had a bit of a temper problem. Above all that, he was still likeable, we still wanted him to win. This new Miguel O’Hara is just a brat, he shows some sign of humanity but quickly changes. Maybe it’s just me, but I like consistency. Then again, it may just be me that likes that.
