Spider-Man: Clone Saga #3 (of 6) Review.

The Crawl Space Offices were buzzing with activity, with Mike Bailey yelling ‘YaTA!’ like Hiro off of Heroes. Apparently he finished his reviews. While I Grumble for not having mine done. That, and Brads about to smack me with the wand of webmasters.

CLONE SAGA #3 (of 6)

Writers: Tom DeFalco And Howard Mackie

Art By: Todd Nauck [Pencils] Victor Olazaba [Inks] and Javier Tartaglia [Colors]

Editor: Ralph Macchio

Story: The story picks up right where it left off last issue. After a big fight between Kaine and Jackal, we get the Gwen Clone’s appearance in this series. Afterwards, Jackal gets the Mark of Kaine, while Peter and Ben fight the Clone army.

Kaine escapes, not only with the ‘other’ pod, but with the formula that Jackal is working with. When the stablizing agent doesn’t work, Peter and Ben then have to question who the Clone is.

THOUGHTS: So I came into this issue a bit abrehensive for this issue. I mean, when you’re dealing with an issue such as the Maximum Cloneage Era of Spider-Man, I had fears that this would just retread. Luckily, I wasn’t disappointed and it became a much better issue than any of those issues at that time.

So many times I got glimpses, and the whole “Who’s the Clone?” Question came up for the first time in this series, and it’s not a central question of this mini like the original story was. This is a good thing, simply because of fact that we were able to get on with it pretty quickly. Peter passing the torch was an excellent touch, and having Ben run around in the original was a fun image.

Some were disappointed that the issue didn’t have Ben in his Spider-Man costume, but we’ll talk about that in the next review.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

  1. Ben Reilly just wore the original classic red and blue Spidey uniform probably because Dick Grayson donned the Batman costume in those recent comics; so it’s the same kind of idea.

  2. This is my favorite of the miniseries so far because Ben and Peter kicking butt and taking names was what I remember most and loving from the original Clone Saga.
