Webs Weekly #1

Jealousy is not an attractive trait, but I have no reservations in saying that I can be a jealous person. Mainly, I’m super jealous of anyone with enough artistic talent (and cojones) to place their work on the inter-webs. Since my background in art didn’t really progress beyond my college days, I find myself pouring through the website DeviantArt, envious of all the artists talented enough to display their work for all the world to see. Well, in a new segment I’m calling Webs Weekly, I plan on bringing you Crawlspacers some of the best and brightest Spider-Man fan art I can find. DeviantArt is filled with some truly talented artists, both professional and amateur, and it has some wonderful pieces to showcase. So without further ado, I bring you the first installment. Enjoy, and join me in letting these gifted individuals know that their hard work is appreciated.

Spider-man by DennisBudd (left)

In addition to this sharp looking Spidey piece, Dennis also has some nice samples featuring characters from both Star Trek and Star Wars. He shows a good deal of love for the Lord of the Rings series as well as Harry Potter. He also has other comic book heroes such as Wonder Woman, Wolverine and the Fantastic Four. And anybody with an Indiana Jones quote in their profile is alright in my book.

A freelance illustrator and comic book artist, Sean has a nice collection of Star Wars pieces on his Deviant page along with some other fan favorites such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Voltron. He also has some nice pencil drawings, as well  as some interesting mash-ups, including an Elmer Fudd in an Orange Lantern get-up, and Thor battling Bizzaro Superman.

There you have it. The first installment of Webs Weekly. Let me know your thoughts and what sort of Spidey pictures you’d like to see in upcoming installments. Villains? Team-ups? Romantic interests, etc.  There’s a plethora of Spidey fan art out there so there should be plenty of time to showcase more, but I figured keeping it simple with two per entry should be enough for now.

“Did I mention I beat up Firelord once? No, seriously. Firelord.” – Ultimate Alliance 2

  1. The “Fan Art” thread on this board has some pretty nice artwork, if I say so myself. 🙂

  2. These are awesome. I wish I could sit down to a blank paper and create something like this.

  3. Great Idea. 🙂 Why not post it to your site instead of Dev art. Maybe ask the web tech to set up some ability to post our art?

  4. STEP ONE: http://spidertour02.deviantart.com/
    STEP TWO: You’re welcome. 😛

All kidding aside, this is a great idea. It’s always great to see the great talent of the fans on display.

@iron_patriot: I’m going to get back to writing my essays about the Genesis-era Spider-Man games once I can get my schedule back on track. I still have three games to go in what was supposed to be a weekly series back in OCTOBER. (I know, I know. I pulled a Cushing. 😛 )

  5. I’ll see what cool villain pics I can find out there for you next week. Maybe we can add a couple more pics to the entries but I was worried last night that I would wind up burning through all the cool pictures within the first few months if I used too many in one entry. There’s thousands of Spidey pics out there, but that doesn’t mean all of them are that good, so we’ll see how long this can last.

  6. Cool, we need more features on the front page, other than the reviews,Spidey Daily, and the News. However, try to add more artwork,’kay?
