Spider-Island:Deadly Hands of Kung Fu

Marvel.com just sent a press release promoting yet another Spider-Island mini-series. This one focuses on Shang Chi.

SPIDER-ISLAND Battles The DEADLY HANDS OF KUNG FU

As Manhattan sits quarantined from the rest of the Marvel Universe in Spider-Island, Shang-Chi and  Iron Fist will have to cut their way through a web of mystery, magic and mayhem in Spider-Island: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #1 (of 3)! In the midst of battle, what call could be so urgent that it takes the Immortal Iron Fist and the Master of Kung Fu away from the side of The Avengers? Beware, The Bride of Nine Spiders now stalks the streets – but is she the cause or the key to a horrific plot than threatens to sink all of Spider-Island?

“I’ve been a fan of Shang-Chi for years, so writing Spider-Island: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu is great fun, especially as Shang himself gets spider-powers,” said Johnston. “Then just throw in a little mystery, some gothic horror, a guest appearance by Iron Fist… and more Kung Fu per page than any other Spider-Island book, guaranteed!”

Shang-Chi, Iron Fist and the Immortal Weapons enter the Marvel Universe’s darkest corners this August, only in Spider Island: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #1 (of 3)!

  1. #9- Steve- Kevin is making a point that I usually buy every single Spider-Man comic. Hell I bought Spider-Man: Breakout and Get Kraven. Nuff said. LOL

  2. Wish Marvel & Rohmer’s estate could work something out so we could get some Masterworks of classic MOKF. Those Moench-Gulacy issues are some of the best stories of the Bronze Age.

  3. #6…how does the jibe with the other constant complaint that Marvel is dumb for not taking more risks with new creators and characters?

Not every book is for every reader.

  4. Yeah I have a ton of books to read as it is now. I just dont’ have an interest in Shang Chi. I never read his series back in the 1970s and I didn’t care for that Shadowland Spidey/Shang Chi Slott wrote. The Free Comic book day story was ok, but I’m good. And it seems Spidey won’t appear in this book with the exception of a panel or two.

  5. It’s rare enough that BD passes on ANY Marvel title, let alone a Spider-Man tie-in.

  6. Yay a Spidey themed event! I thought it was weird that DD got Shadowland before Spidey ever got an event

  7. I’m glad of the exposure Shang Chi has gotten lately in Secret Avengers and now this Spider-Island tie-in, but they really need to change that outfit around. It looks so generic.

  8. I know people that are huge Iron Fist fans, so I know this will have an audience.

These tie-ins are getting out of hand, but I suppose having a Spider-man-centered event is a good thing. Has he ever had one in the past?
