@28: Taking an idea not familiar by many and bringing it in, also there’s the definition of using ideas that has not been used on the character before
@29: I like “Origin of the Species” more than Grim Hunt
@26 & 27: I’ve never seen a writer take more risks with an established character and come out on the winning side. For example he gave Peter Parker, notorious for scraping the bottom of the barrel to find a paycheck, a prestigious and high paying steady job. It’s actually made the character MORE interesting, to see how he applies what he learns as Spidey to his professional life. He’s also taken away arguably Spider-Man’s most well known and unique power (spider-sense) and has added an element of unknown and surprise that was lacking before. Slott’s also quite possibly the best I’ve ever read at building on his own plot points in later stories, and making use of obscure/unused characters. It’s not his fault that he had to follow the disaster that was OMD, and BND was only good in pieces. There were too many cooks in the kitchen, and for every good story (Shed, Grim Hunt) there were some bombs (Origin of the Species).
I’m sorry for those who aren’t enjoying Slott on the book, but I hope his run lasts as long as possible.
@27
What is your definition of innovative in respect to what Slott could be doing? I’m enjoying the run myself, but I don’t think in terms of innovative, just could it be better.
I disagree with NJ4Life about it being innovative, I agree on it being one of the best runs
@23 – You’re being sarcastic, right?
Right?
22, the original saying “the king is dead; long live the king” refers to the passing of one king and the ascent of the next. The same applies here.
I’m for this new version of spidey as long as the stories are well-written. Check out “Miles Morales, Spiderman” on facebook.
@19, you’re out of your mind if you think Slott is anything other than one of the best and most innovative writers in the history of ASM.
He looks like he has alot of muscle for a 12 year old. Nice costume though. Shouldn’t the title be “Peter Parker is Dead. Long Live Spider-man”?
I think the fact this is the Ultimate Universe, so 616 Peter Parker is still around, gives Miles a better chance of sticking around for a while than if it was the regular MU. Ultimate Wolverine remains dead as far as I can tell. If sales are good, I think he could have a good long run. If not, they may bring Peter back to try and boost numbers.
@16 Fan Man… shoot, that was the number of issues I was going to give it in my review of the first issue
I really love this cover, it’s phenomenal. I’m sure the story’ll be good ( I mean Bendis is writing the thing, and while his stuff isn’t perfect it’s a lot better than the crap Slott comes up with.)
I want to see how May, Gwen, MJ, J.J, and everyone who ever was involved with Peter react towards Miles
I have no problem with the age (he’s only two years younger than Peter), but it’s a little cheeky to call yourself Spider-*Man* at 13. Not that I would buy “Spider-Boy #1.”
He’s got NO chance. If comic history has taught us anything…Ultimate Peter will be back quite soon.
I have the over/under at 20 issues.
I kind of like the costume.
@12: True. You got me there.
So I take it he took secret identity lessons from Tobey Maguire?
@11: This one has Fury
I think one or more of the Robins were 10 when they started out? But at least they had Batman…
Waiting for the story on the inside…
… he will live or die by the quality of the writing. That’s it.
I’m pretty sure it’s 13, not 12, which is the same age Kitty Pryde was when she started. There have been other heroes that young, I’m sure.
wait he’s 12?
Awesome cover. My ONLY problem is with his age. I really think 12 is unrealistically young even in a comicbook setting (more due to the hero’s emotional and intellectual immaturity than his physical immaturity). I’m going to have a hard problem relating to a preteen hero. Really wish they had kept him as 16, because the other stuff about him seems intriguing.
He really looks like a young kid, which I think is good because it’s different from the teenage aspect of Ultimate Peter.
I actually like legacy heroes, this definately looks good! Will always miss Peter but look forward to the new Ultimate universe titles.
The way they changed everyone’s origin in the Ultimate series, I think this guys fits more
Going to read this
Good cover!
I think it symbolizes what Ultimate is now. Awesome, more free to move around tales, where anything is possible. Also, anybody think this is the kid who the deli owner was shot? Bad sentence, back during when Peter had the Black Costume?
