From Newsarama more information is revealed about this falls event Axis that will have members of both the Avengers and X-Men facing the Red Skull and his team of other villains that will go by the name “Axis”.

The nine issues will be split into three 3-issue acts, and will change the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe in “lasting” ways, writer Rick Remender said, though he also calls the changes “natural” and “additive.” The story for the Avengers and X-Men will be “a nice cathartic chapter in [their] history at the worst moment in their lives.”

AXIS does have a double-meaning as well, with a group calling itself by that name, as well as multiple factions of heroes and villains forming throughout the series. In addition to the previously announced eclectic collection of heroes in Storm, Thor, Iron man, Luke Cage, Deadpool, and Medusa of the Inhumans, Marvel confirmed that Havok, Kid Apocalypse (no longer going by Genesis?), and Quentin Quire will be on the side of the angels. Absorbing Man, Hobgoblin, and Sabretooth were similarly added to the villains’ roster.

So, both the Green Goblin and the Hobgoblin are part of Axis along with Loki, Dr. Doom, Carnage and Sabretooth. This seems to be a lot going on in Axis, thoughts on all this? Thank you Newsrama for the story.

  1. I can’t see a capitalistic string-puller like Kingsley willingly working with or for a crazy/murdering Red Skull.

  2. Well, they said the story has changed hands and names a few times. I can believe Norman was the first choice.

  3. I guess they replaced Green Goblin with Hobgoblin because Osbron getting cured at the end of Superior means he’s likely not going to turn up as the Goblin again anytime soon, what with the whole “you’ve never faced Norman Osbron” deal, and I guess the plans for this event were made before the reveal and Marvel had to change it.

Not that Kingsley being a part of this villain group makes much sense either, but it might not even be him. It could just be some guy he sold the Hobgoblin identity too, since he likely wants to distance himself from the identity and New York after his last failure there.

  4. @1 – Yeah, they seem to be replacing the Green Goblin with the Hobgoblin. Not sure what the heck is the deal with that.

@2 – From what I understand, the Red Skull grafted part of Professor X’s brain to his, and it created Red Onslaught. Not sure if he’s connected with Onslaught himself, who is still out there somewhere…

  5. They just recolored Green Goblin as Hobgoblin in that promo art…

If that’s Kingsley, that seems really counter to his M.O. to be working with these guys.
