Bendis sends Venom and the Guardians of the Galaxy to the Planet of the Symbiotes

mgid-uma-image-mtv.com-9518974Yep, right from MTV News, Brian Michael Bendis is sending Flash Thompson (The current Venom) and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy to the Planet of the Symbiotes.

“I looked it up and I was like no, there’s been a planet we’ve seen taken over by symbiotes, but have we not seen the planet of the symbiotes?” Bendis said. “I called [Marvel Senior Vice President Of Publishing] Tom Brevoort, I go, could it be that even in the craziness of the ’90s when it was Venom, Venom, Venom every five seconds, that this story has not been told? And he goes, yeah we’ve never been there. And I’m like, now I have to do it! It’s crazy.”

“It will be a planet full of symbiotes,” Editor Mark Marts added on what to expect from the story, “But beyond that, it’s a lot of mystery. But we will be adding to the symbiote mythology in ways the average reader won’t expect at all.”

  1. Planet of the Symbiotes?! Damn I feel like I’m in the 90’s again. Can’t wait for the issue of GOTG that says “Starring Venom and Pals!” on the cover.

  2. Didn’t they go to the planet though briefly in the middle of the story back in the 90s? (Not opposed to revisiting it but still…)

  3. @#5- I was thinking something similar, but don’t have the comic in front of me. Here’s what Wikipedia says: ” It is implied that Galactus, devourer of worlds, consumed a world which they had conquered and where they had thrived, based on Carnage’s reaction to the Silver Surfer, former herald of Galactus. It is shown through the Carnage symbiote that this was a world whose dominant life forms had been overrun by the marauding symbiotes, though whether or not it is the world on which the symbiotes originated is never clarified”.
I think Wikipedia is right on this.

  4. I could be mistaken, but wasn’t the symbiotes’ home planet eaten by Galactus?

I remember the Cosmic Carnage story from right after the Clone Saga lightly touching on that…

  5. @3- Thanks, I was born after the Clone Saga ended, so my memory of it is not that great. That’s a bit better, and I’m not really as ticked as I was now that my memory is less fuzzy. Thanks again for helping my memory.

  6. #2 Actually he’s not saying it didn’t happen. He specifically mentions “there’s been a planet we’ve seen taken over by symbiotes, but have we not seen the planet of the symbiotes”. The planet is the 90’s mini series was one CONQUERED by the Symbiotes, not their home world.

  7. Well, Bendis saying Planet of the Symbiotes from the Clone Saga never happened before is a lie, so I am not very pleased with Marvel for just blatantly forgetting one of their most infamous story arcs! Marvel, you can’t just forget you created something and write “MCU, MCU, watch the movies and buy our toys!” over it! Or, even worse, just say you didn’t do something at all! That’s Dan Slott’s job!

@1- Yeeeah, Venom destroyed his race in the Planet of the Symbiotes arc of the Clone Saga, so I don’t think he’ll be cozy coming home if Marvel, in some longshot, remembers one of their more infamous story lines.

Also, apologies if this comes after another post I made here, my computer’s been laggy and not submitting things right away.
