  1. @#16
Story is the book is getting cancelled and has been delayed to wrap up the traitor story line that is revealed in issue 5 so there is a full conclusion. Also, Secret Wars is playing a factor too due to the c-books ending.

  2. @#7

So Slott is the writer of #18 after all? Ugh… so much for having a regular Amazing Spider-Man issue which isn’t written by Slott.

Oh well, at least we’ll be getting the “.1” issues by Gerry Conway. Maybe the .1 issues will be the final well-written Spider-Man comics before Secret Wars messes everything up.

  3. @#12- I think it might be more of an instance of Slott and Wacker having a plan for the stories spinning out of Superior, but it being changed once Wacker left and Lowe came on board. Lowe might have been more interested in setting things up for Secret Wars and the changes that follow, whereas Wacker might have not been involved in that side of editorial.

Slott may have had a big two year plan, but when Lowe came on board he instructed Slott that things would be changing, and there would be things that he wouldn’t be able to pursue. I don’t think it’s a surprise that Carlie Cooper was shown the door at the end of Superior, and Anna Marie was downgraded from love interest to “confidant.” So I have a feeling that Parker Industries was just a remnant of Slott’s original plan that he couldn’t get rid of as quickly or as easily as someone like Carlie Cooper “going upstate.” They still needed Parker Industries in the books, but I think that there was reluctance to actually use it under Lowe’s editorial direction.

So I think these three issues spinning out of Spider-Verse will probably be “cleanup” before Renew Your Vows. Although I am saddened that Renew Your Vows looks to be only four issues long. I would have liked to have had a just as much time devoted to the possible reunion of Peter and MJ that events like Goblin Nation and Spider-Verse got.

  4. @#2 and 5-Guys, again the end of Parker industries doesn’t necessarily mean a reboot one way or another. I laugh that it’s the end of an era though. Yeah, an era which lasted…what? 2 years or so? Also Battleworld is laster after Secret Wars apparently.

Honestly I am confused and angry that Mayday is on the cover of Spider-Verse but ISN’T in the issue apparently with it being Arana-Girl (screw you she isn’t Spider-Girl).

  5. @#12 – I wonder if it started getting scuttled back when he had to start preparing for Peter to take the reins again. It is stuff like this that makes me wonder a bit how true it is about Secret Wars being planned so far in advance or if it’s just a case of disorganization among the offices. I hadn’t noticed that about Gage, but that could explain a few things.

I’d been imagining that even in the unlikely instance of us finally getting what we want, it’ll just sort of be thrown onto us without really exploring everything. I know she’s been absent from the titles before, but I tended to think they did an alright job of bringing her back. Not sure if we can expect the same thing here. I confess I had this weird idea that RYV might be an alternate take on Dying Wish with Peter having a family and everyone not acting like a moron and catching onto things quicker.

@#14 – Huh, I hadn’t realized that all those instances were like that.

I hope so as well, if only to have some good, fun Spider-Man issues.

It feels like that would be rather important to the whole thing to give more detail to that whole incident. It would also perhaps give more meaning when she does speak with Ben and May.

  6. Not surprised to see big hints at the end of Parker Industries, especially since Slott hasn’t done much to present Peter as a competent CEO or someone whose even really interested in running a company. Granted, the competency of his Peter has fluctuated issue by issue, but still. I wouldn’t be shocked if something SpOck did results in the end of the company, but then I also wouldn’t be surprised if Slott has something stupid Peter does come back to bite him…

Silk on a date with Johnny? Reminds me of all that flirting Ultimate Johnny did with Ultimate Spider-Woman back during Ultimate Spider-Man, and seems like another attempt at pairing Peter’s best Superhero friend with someone whose similar to Pete and has the same powers. Kinda like that time Marvel tried pairing X-23 and Cyclops together for a bit.

Hopefully something good for Felicia comes out of the Conway series, if nothing else. It’ll be nice to see Spidey taking on Hammerhead again though.

Seems like we’re going to get more focus on the Spider-Gwen version of Peter in issue #4 and his turning into the Lizard. I wonder if we’ll get more insight onto his exact relationship with Gwen, and her feelings for him? Also looking forward to seeing what May and Ben are like in this universe.

  7. @#11- I think the Parker Industries thing was more of a subplot that Slott probably wanted to go somewhere else, but in the end the creative changes in the company caused the storyline to be truncated if not ignored entirely. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had larger plans for the development, but was told that he had to scuttle it to make way for what was coming. Which is why I’m not surprised that it’s Gage “co-writing” the story. It seems that Gage tends to step in and pitch hit for Slott whenever there is a development or change in the storyline that he seems to disagree with.

I don’t think the MJ we’ll be getting will SOLELY be from an alternate universe. But it’s still a little frustrating that she’ll be absent from the books for so long. It makes me worried that whatever will come out of Renew Your Vows will be totally out of nowhere with little to no satisfying buildup.

  8. @RDMacQ – It certainly doesn’t seem to have really gone anywhere other than sort of driving home how incompetent this version of Peter can be to a degree, though him not being the type to run a company isn’t exactly what I’d call out of character I guess.

It’s almost sort of weird that we’re just going to have her in the books again after her being gone for this period. Of course, this could be some sort alternate universe I guess, but it’d be sort of odd if they never get around to addressing whatever was supposed to happen with Ollie, if anything was planned at all.

  9. @8 – Thanks.

@9 – Parker industries always seemed like a carryover from Superior Spider-Man, I think it was inevitable that it would cave in as soon as Peter came back.

  10. So even with a reduced workload, Slott STILL needs a fill in with Gage (To which I wonder exactly how MUCH of the issue Gage is writing.)

But I’m not surprised that the Parker Industries subplot is being abandoned so quickly into this run. I think this was probably an idea Slott was more intrigued with than the actual editorial department.

Also not surprised that Renew Your Vows isn’t happening this month, but I am a bit disappointed. It looks like- at this point- MJ will have been absent from the books for over a year. Which is a little sad. I know that there are plans for her character, in one way or another, coming down the pipe. But that’s still quite a wait for the return of the character. Hopefully we’ll have more information next month.

  11. @#7 Ben — Spider-Gwen #1 is scheduled to be released on February 28th.

@#8 Nick MB — Thanks for the head’s up, Nick. I’ve edited and updated the original post to mention this.

  12. A non Slott penned ASM and Parker Industries (possibly) being phased out in the same issue, count me in. I really hope that Conway story is good. Does anyone know when Spider-Gwen #1 comes out?

  13. Looking at the Secret Wars issues, is this likely to be a four month affair since #8 will likely conclude with us in the new Marvel universe?

  14. With regards to Peter potentially being “fired” from his own company or losing it altogether as the cover (in yet another homage to Spider-Man: No More) and solicit suggests, I’m not shocked or surprised in the least over the implication that Peter is losing his own company–not after the comics have given none-too-subtle hints that Peter is just not CEO material, and that Sajani Jaffrey and Anna Maria Marconi have been working on Otto’s nanotech project behind his back. Cause after all, Spidey needs to have his money problems and not be Tony Stark junior. And, as you pointed out, Ryan, it happens right as Secret Wars is about to start conveniently enough.

As to how Peter might lose Parker Industries? What if it ties back to how Otto, while he was in Peter’s body, created the company? Remember, Otto, as Peter, got himself a business loan in order to start up Parker Industries, with Sajani Jaffrey, as his vice-president, putting up her life savings as collateral, and Aunt May’s husband, Jay Jameson, investing a lion’s share of the cash. But since Otto was in Peter’s body and thus had complete control of it–including Peter’s fine motor skills–then logically his signature would be different than Peter’s. So what if the bank Otto filed the loan for checked the signature on the loan and past bank statements made by Peter and saw a discrepancy, and essentially tell Peter the following? “Mr. Parker? We’ve been reviewing your business loan application, and our handwriting experts noticed that your signature didn’t match the one we have for you on record. If you can’t explain this, I’m afraid the bank will have no choice but to terminate your loan as we investigate this matter further.”

  15. Ok, so… Parker industries no more? I guess that’s just the beginning of the Secret Reboot. Since Slott is not the writer of this issue, I’ll pick it up. Hopefully Gage handles it well.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #18.1… Peter, Hammerhead and crazy Felicia? Looks Interesting. Since Gerry Conway is the writer, I’m sure this storyline will turn out great. SPIDER-MAN 2099 #12 and SPIDER-GWEN #4 looks interesting. I think I’ll get them as well.

Heh, Peter and Silk’s so-called “relationship” was never a natural to begin with so their break up isn’t surprising…. but JOHNNY STORM? SERIOUSLY?! Ugh!! Looks like Marvel hooked Silk up with Johnny to make the FF fans buy her book. There’s no way I’m picking this up.

As for the Secret Reboot titles, I’ll ignore them. Who knows, maybe Marvel will turn this event into Ultimatum 2.0.

  16. Hmm, so Renew Your Vows doesn’t seem to be starting this month. Was curious if the solicitation for that one might reveal a bit more about it or not. Then again, not all of those teasers came up this month. I did notice that the ones that did don’t have indications of being miniseries, which makes me question whether these are one issue affairs or if they’re trying to make it unclear?

So it’s Gage only on #18? I’ll confess I’m curious what this HUGE chapter is. I can’t think it’s Parker Industries since that was barely around long enough to really matter. Looks like it’s failing too, though with Secret Wars there are probably bigger things to worry about.

Hope the Conway book turns out well and I’m half wondering if they’ll use this as a means of explaining Felicia’s behavior. Since Mr. Negative is showing up I’ve been wondering if they’ll use him as an excuse or something.

Silk’s going on a date with Johnny? If it means she and Peter aren’t a thing then okay I guess.

Mark Waid was doing a Shield series?

  17. RIP Parker Industries. We knew it would happen soon. nice since June kicks off Renew your Vows. Silk with Johnny, please stop!
