Yesterday afternoon we (as in fandom) learned that writer & artist Dawyn Cooke was battling an aggressive cancer.
Very late last night we started to get word that he’d lost his battle with it, and it was confirmed this morning. He was only 53 years old.
To say Darwyn Cooke was an amazing talent would be an understatement. His distinct style was instantly recognizable and fans will miss that.
But if you ever met him at a convention? He was one of the guys you’d talk about to your friends after when recounting all the nice and wonderful people you’d met. He was very kind, warm, polite and respectful with comic fans. So much so that he stood out for it. And his love of superhero storytelling was so profoundly evident.
He’ll mostly be remembered for his fantastic DC work… DC: New Frontier (which inspired an animated film in his visual style) and Catwoman, especially. But Spider-Fans will also remember him as the man who gave us the two best issues of the Spider-Man’s Tangled Web anthology comic, almost fifteen years ago – Spider-Man’s Tangled Web #11 and #21.
Our hearts and thoughts go out to his family and friends. And thanks for some good Spidey stories, Darwyn!

Met him a few years ago, very nice guy. Loved his work.
It is sad that he died so young. This article I believe did a great job of honoring Darwyn Cooke.
Just another person I probably wold have enjoyed getting to meet. rest in peace.
