Jared Leto, fresh off his Joker run in Suicide Squad, has been cast as Morbius. The new movie will have Leto play a scientist who is trying to cure himself of a blood disease that goes wrong. The cure sucks, in more ways than one and turns him into a living vampire. Variety is reporting that Daniel Espinosa will direct the movie. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Lucas Foster will produce the film. Morbius was introduced in Amazing Spider-Man #101 in 1971 during the six armed Spidey storyline. No word if Spider-Man will make a cameo in the movie.
Variety is also reporting production could start before the end of the year.
Espinsosa directed the movie “Life” which stared Ryan, Deadpool, Reynolds and Jake, Mysterio, Gyllenhaal. That movie was rumored to be a Venom prequel at the time it came out since Sony was producing it. It was about a symbiote looking alien that got on board a space craft and made it to earth. Sony superhero movies are going to end up as the low-rent slum section of Marvelville.
I really have to wonder if Morbius will even have any real name appeal for the general public, will they even know he’s a Spider-Man villain? At least Venom is one of Spidey’s most famous characters, Morbius’ main claim to fame is being over-exposed in the 90’s cartoon, where he wanted to suck up plasma…
Come on, people. It’s obvious that his neck tattoo will say “bite me”.
Well…at least the whole Hot Topic angle will make a little more sense for this character.
@hornacek — Maybe he’ll have a “CHONK” tattoo on his face.
Hornacek for the win.
“Looks like Sony has …” (puts on sunglasses) “… jumped the shark.”
YYYEEEAAARRRGGGHHH!!!
(cause, you know, Morbius got eaten by sharks. In that What If? issue. Come on, that should be in the Crawl Space orientation package)
Nah, on the neck and he will have a bad accident that sounds like Gru from Despicable Me.
Because he did such a bang-up job as the Joker. *cue heavy eye roll*
Maybe his Morbius will have ‘THIRSTY’ tattooed on his forehead.
