DISCOVER A BRILLIANT NEW VISION OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE IN KAARE ANDREW’S AMAZING FANTASY #1

Acclaimed writer/artist Kaare Andrews returns to Marvel Comics this July with a breathtaking new series

New York, NY— April 14, 2021 — This July, experience your favorite Marvel heroes like never before in AMAZING FANTASY! From award-winning creator Kaare Andrews comes a brand-new series that will blend different Marvel eras and genres for one epic adventure starring Captain America, Spider-Man, and Black Widow. Known for his unforgettable work on series such as Spider-Man: Reign and Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus: Year One, Andrews is back at Marvel Comics and ready to capture readers’ imaginations with this astonishing take on the Marvel Universe.

Red Room Black Widow, teenage Spider-Man, World War II Captain America — the most iconic versions of your favorite Marvel characters from across time and space all wake up on an island of intrigue, darkness and…Amazing Fantasy. Are they dead? Are they dreaming? Or have they truly been transported to another fantastical realm? And is there any way for them to return home? This isn’t just a love letter to your favorite Marvel eras, it’s a reinvestment in the seminal characters you’ve always loved, plucked from their quintessential timelines. Here’s what the Andrews had to say about his incredible new series:

“My very first memories of reading anything, even before I could read words, were of holding a Marvel comic in my hands at the age of four. I had no idea what the characters were saying, but I was enchanted with the story told through pictures. It is a thrill to return to a new Marvel limited series, writing and drawing not just my favorite characters– but my favorite versions of those characters. I just had to come up with a plan to put WWII Captain America, teenaged Spidey and spy school Black Widow into the same adventure.

“This is a story that combines not just different Marvel eras but different art styles to depict them. As a creator, sometimes you want to invent new heroes and villains to expand the universe into different places or ideas, but sometimes there is an even greater power in embracing what has come before. In telling fresh and passionate tales with heroes that an audience has already invested a lifetime in. There is a beating heart to these archetypes. And they need to live again!”

This is the one you’ve been waiting for, True Believers… It’s one Amazing Fantasy for the ages! Don’t miss it when AMAZING FANTASY #1 hits stands on July 28th! For more information, visit Marvel.com.

  1. @Aqu – I know I’ve heard the DKR comparison by both readers *and* from Marvel.

  2. @Gabriel
That’s not completely true. It depends on the amount (and type) of radiation. We don’t know how much radioactive is Peter’s blood, and consequently his sperm. Of course it would give MJ a cancer to the reproductive apparatus, probably to the uterus, so I don’t think it would be lethal if found in time, but with tumors you never know.

That said, I liked Reign and I found that concept actually funny, given how often powers were dependant on radiation in the ’60s. Like someone one day woke up and said: “radiation doesn’t give powers, people, it gives cancer!”

    @hornacek
You know, now that you mention it, I have the feeling that someone described it like a DKR version of Spidey in a semi-official way.

Well, at least we should all be grateful they didn’t describe Regin as a seminal series…

  3. @Hornacek
The worst is that even if that was true, the radioctive sperm, I doubt that it would affect MJ at all, it’s like eating a banana, the radiation should not be enough to give you cancer even if you eat it your whole life

  4. “Radioactive blood” is a given with Spidey (it’s mentioned in his theme song!). But him also having radioactive … um … you know … is taking it too far. The idea that every time Peter and MJ made love he was killing her a little bit is too dark for Spidey. We’re getting into “Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex” territory here, but if it was canon.

Plus Reign feels like someone read The Dark Knight Returns and thought “We should do this, but with Spider-Man!”

  5. Reign wasn’t that bad. Yes it was goofy at time but overall i rather enjoyed it. I think it’s getting undeserve crap for these 2 things… Also the radioactive fluids are technically canon, since Peter tried to donate blood to aunt May and it made her sick… no one batted an eyelash then…

  6. “Known for his unforgettable work on series such as Spider-Man: Reign”

Well, this is technically correct. Although I don’t think SM: Reign is unforgettable for the reasons that Marvel wanted. “full frontal Spidey” and “radioactive sperm” are probably not the things they wanted this series to be remembered for.
