MARCO SPEAKS SPIDEY: Death of the Venomverse (2023) #3 REVIEW

This time around, I’m purposely not going to include any images coming from the latter half of this issue, because I truly want all of you to experience fully the chaos, madness and mayhem that will take place between Carnage and the army of Venoms. As Marvel indicated in its official description below, there is nothing really to say about this issue aside from the fact that it’s going to be one heck of a war between Carnage and Silence. The good thing about this chapter is that all the other Venoms, who are still alive, also get their chance to shine, either in battle or on a more personal level. All I can say is that, so far, this series has been one wild roller-coaster ride, and it’s the perfect type of book to read after a stressful day at work, or if you just want to enjoy some brainless action during the weekend.

CARNAGE VS. SILENCE – ‘NUFF SAID!

PROS:

  • It’s pretty scary seeing how each and every issue, we see Carnage getting stronger and stronger. There is much emphasis put on the fact that he has done away with his human host, making him more powerful and more sinister at the same time. This book has literally shown so much character development for Carnage as a villain.
  • Even though this issue is mainly a big battle between Carnage and the army of Venoms, we still get very soft and emotional moments in between the different clashes. In this book, we get a father-daughter reunion for the ages, even though the happiness and joy do not last very long. You will see what I mean when you read the actual comic.
  • As usual, the art team is flexing every creative muscle that they have, spoiling us with beautiful, bloody panels and pages, paired with awesome close-up shots of characters, showing honest, transparent, and heart-wrenching emotion through it all.
  • I really appreciate how more Venoms get their chance to shine and make a name for themselves in this issue. In the earlier chapters, I was worried that a lot of these Venoms would just be tossed aside as collateral damage. But now, I am actually getting attached to a lot of them. Of course, I do not know who will come out alive at the end of the day, but for some of you Venoms (you know who you are) … all I can say in advance is that it was fun while it lasted. To Carnage… despite that last page, I know I will be seeing more of you very soon. I am sure of it.

CONS:

  • I was really hyped to see Silence in action, but I was also kind of disappointed when the story ended so abruptly. I know there are bonus stories being offered here, and this aspect really gives customers bang for their buck, but I was really hoping for more kick-ass brutality coming from Silence.

FINAL GRADE: B+

For anybody still on the fence about this series, I can confidently tell you that it is a must-buy. You are getting value for money, because not only is this book giving us an epic war between Carnage and Venoms from an infinite number of realities, but we are also treated to interesting bonus tales. I am really glad that Venom, Carnage and the other symbiotes are taking over the Marvel Universe in terms of shared voice. Every week, it seems like we are being offered a plethora of Venom and Carnage titles that force us to keep track of everything happening on that front. It is a good time to be a Spider-Man fan, for sure. But honestly, it is even a better time to be a Venom or Carnage fan, nowadays. We’re eating well, folks, and the promising thing about all of this is that there is no end in sight. It looks like we have a long way to go, culminating with the ultimate finale showcasing the main event: Eddie Brock versus Carnage. Buckle up, web-heads, more fun times lie ahead!
