2. And this means WHAT exactly? He still has to play the part how they tell him to.

3. Garfield has said that he grew up reading comics and watching the 90s cartoon. Considering how honest and enthusiastic he is in interviews, I believe him.

4. Someone threw a trade of Torment in front of him because it had the Lizard. Tobey professed he read the first 50 issues of Amazing I believe.

5. I read Torment because McFarlane drew it. Yeah, it went on four five issues. But it was always nice to see Todd doing his thing. The fact that he got Marvel to give him his own Spider-man title is one of the things I admired about him. It was alright. I know he wanted to use someone from Spider-man’s original villians, but most of them were tied up in Amazing’s Sinister six thing, so he got to use the Lizard and ofcourse Kraven (really didn’t) show up. But it was neat enough.

   It’s also nice to see an actor doing his research.

6. Never once did I hear Toby Maguire pic out a particular arc or story line in his interviews. Andrew really has his shit together. Both are great books, and I look forward to seeing that portrayed on screen. Actually, the shot in the trailer of Spider-Man crouched on top of the web in the sewer was very McFarlanish.

   Torment’s not the greatest Spider-Man story, but for the Lizard it works wonders.

   Even though he was a mindless drone, look at the sheer physicality and savagery the Lizard possessed. He was able to defeat Spidey easily at one point in that story. It’s a prime example of just how damn powerful the Lizard actually is, and that’s more powerful physically than Spider-Man, Norman, and the Hobgoblin. That one story completely showed how the Lizard could work for a single movie or a cartoon series. As a long term villain, he gets old, but I think for the big screen he could be really good.

   We’ll see, I hope the new movie really does the Lizard justice.

   Only a Norman supporter would fail to see the potential for the Lizard Torment revealed. 🙂

9. Love the respect Garfield shows toward Spidey, love the idea of an art gallery shrine to Spidey on the set of the film…they’re off to a good start.

   Also, Garfield says that he loved the art for Torment, he doesn’t say anything about the story…which was pretty weak imo. If he would have said it was a great story, he would have dropped a few pegs in my book. He basically threw McFarlane a bone for his work in Spidey-lore.

   @Thrawn, we’ve discussed this a lot offline I know…but I had to call you out again here :). Only a guy who supports Roderick over Norman would love Torment as a great Lizard story haha! The lizard was a mindless drone for Calypso and he barely uttered a word during the entire arc. Torment wasn’t anywhere near as bad as Shed, but certainly not a brightspot in the Lizard’s hisssstory…imo…

10. Torment works as a graphic novel or the last thirty minutes of a movie.

    Oh, and my complaint with the Lizard, forever and ever, is that he can stay normal after turning into a rampaging monster several dozen times. We know Bruce Banner is haunted by the thought of being a monster, even one who occasionally does the good thing, why isn’t Curt Connors tormented(see what I did there?) by this?

    That only applies to comic Lizard,though. One appearance in the movie(at least I hope so) wouldn’t be bad. Seeing Spidey chase the Lizard through the sewers and the streets would be fantastic.

11. Good for him. I liked Torment as well. The Lizard’s potential as a true powerhouse and force of nature was never shown more effectively before or since. The Lizard is actually stronger and more physically powerful than Spider-Man, and has the ability to climb walls like Spider-Man. He’s like a less powerful and versatile version of Venom in that regard. He matches up well with Spidey as far as powers go, and if done correctly on film, a knock down, drag out fight between the two could be a real treat.
