Spidey Still An Avenger…But Now Uncanny

SpiderMan-AvengersSo with all of the “All-New, All-Different Marvel” stuff that’s been going on, one of the questions is what’s going to happen to Peter Parker once Secret Wars is done? Well if what Bleeding Cool is reporting is accurate, we may have gotten some idea.

Although the article doesn’t specify, it not only seems Peter Parker will still be Spider-Man along with Miles Morales, he’ll also still be an Avenger. The difference though is he’ll be joining the Uncanny Avengers, which will relaunch this October with a new #1, and be written by Gerry Duggan and illustrated by former Superior Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider artist, Ryan Stegman.

As for who Spidey’s new teammates will be, they will include Steve Rogers (now in his late-seventies due to the loss of his super soldier serum), the Human Torch (unsure as to which one), Rogue, Deadpool, Quicksilver, and Brother Voodoo. No news, however, as to The Amazing Spider-Man, but we’ll keep you guys posted.

  1. One source says that the masked woman (probably Inhuman) in the cover is codenamed Psynapse (not to be confused with the obscure male Marvel character Synapse).

  2. And now Bleeding Cool has updated their original piece yet again and are saying it might be the Human Torch. Though which one, we’re not sure.

  3. Wow, it feels like they just drew 6 random names from a hat to join Spidey on an Avengers team. I mean, what do these characters have in common? Quicksilver, Deadpool, Brother Voodoo, and Sunspot? It’ll take some real creative writing to come up with a reason for these characters to come together and form a team.

Your mileage with the current Deadpool may vary. When he had his first run in the 90’s he was an interesting and complex character. He had a real supporting cast, goals, and a rational plot progression. Over time, but especially since Way’s run in 2008, he’s become Marvel’s “Non sequitur Man”. He’s largely been reduced to being a completely random nonsense character. I imagine Marvel’s recent tendency to write him as a one-dimensional funny man will only be compounded in a team book. If you like the random funny man, you’ll enjoy him. Personally, I’ve been enjoying him less and less every year since “Cable and Deadpool” was canceled.

  5. On-Topic with this particular announcement, I’m curious about it. Always heard good things about Deadpool, though that’s an interesting line-up.

  6. @#7 Stillanerd – Saw the bit about 2099 on the list right after I posted here, but didn’t want to doublepost and figured you’d have it up quick which you did.

  7. @#6 Sean — Yep, just posted that news, along with Peter David and Will Sliney returning for Spider-Man 2099 #1, prior to seeing your post, Sean. Thanks for the update. 🙂

  8. Well, Slott got confirmed to be writing Amazing Spider-Man #1 with Giuseppe Camuncoli. So the man gets another all new run on the book when he couldn’t do anything good with 18 issues on the last one. Why even bother with the renumbering?

  9. Peter Parker, a secondary character in the Spider-man books and relegated to the secondary Avengers title.

    Whoopee! /sarc

  10. Another update. Seems it wasn’t actually Human Torch but Sunspot, instead.

  11. @#2 Frontier —

The Human Torch is likely the original, now Inhuman, Jim Hammond version instead of Johnny.

Yeah, that would make a lot of sense, actually.

  12. I’m kinda shocked that, with all these Avenger teams, the Wasp isn’t on any of them. Does no one at Marvel currently like or care about Janet?

‘Cause with all these crazy rosters coming out of the Bleeding Cool announcements, you’d think she’d be in at least one team.

I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about Duggan, though I’m surprised that it looks like Remender is gone, and I hope it’s Peter as Spidey on the team. Brother Voodoo still being on the team seems more Remender though.

I know a lot of people are unhappy with Rogue still being stuck with The Avengers, and Deadpool on an Avengers team seems pretty ridiculous, but I’ll still give it a shot. The Human Torch is likely the original, now Inhuman, Jim Hammond version instead of Johnny.

  13. I remember a time, it feels like ages ago, when you could follow The Avengers with only one book. I would like to read the Avengers again but I just don’t care enough to sort through the mess. I saw on reddit recently the correct chronological read order for Hickman’s Avengers leading into Secret Wars, it was a horrific mess.

They wouldn’t need multiple monthly books anyway if they didn’t shoehorn in every popular character in the Marvel U regardless of whether or not it makes sense for them to join the team *glances at Deadpool’s name on this list.*
