Snapshot: Deadly Neighbourhood Spider-Man (Finale)

Writer: Taboo & B. Earl

Artist: Juan Ferreyra

Depth of Field: Spider-Man and Crystal escape the dream realm to complete their science experiment and save reality.

Focal Point: I was a little disappointed in this finale. Parts of the resolution felt forced. In the dream world Peter confronted his nightmare, and for some reason this gave Crystal powers. I would have preferred Crystal receiving her powers through an act of heroism.

I mentioned in previous reviews that I enjoyed Peter and Crystals relationship, and that’s still true in this issue. I hope that by making her a Spider-Themed hero we’ll see her again…though I doubt it. Maybe in five years as a cameo in the next Spider-verse event.

I did like when Spider-Man and Dream return the lab, they are able to use their science to defeat the Demon Bear. Though overall a lot of the story was techno babble, and I’m not sure there was a clear threat or resolution.

Peter and Crystal say their goodbyes (forever), and he flies home leaving Randy and Janice in the desert.

So while I found the final chapter to be less impressive than earlier issues, story wise, the art in this issue was some of the best. I’ve thought the art was top tier all the throughout the series, but this was a step up.

Photobombed: The reveal of Dream’s costume was a little lacklustre. I first thought it was Chasm. Did no editor notice when they approved the design that it has a massive resemblance to another character currently getting a big push. And the name Dream Spider? Dream Weaver was right there?!

Cutting Room Floor: Randy and Crystal’s cameo appearance at the end of the book was disappointing. It was a throw away joke, but at the expense of Peter’s character. For the joke to work we are to believe Mr. Responsibility left two of his friends, possessed by dream demons in the desert….

GradeC – once again amazing art, but an okay story.

  1. @ Sthenurus I’m glad you enjoyed the series. I did think it was a fun ride. I looked forward to each issue, which has not been the case with previous b-titles.

Thanks for following along with the reviews and for the support.

  2. I really liked the series (and you reviews of it!).

I thought it was everything a B title should be: different, fun, experimental while fitting neatly with the current supporting cast and event in the main ASM series.

I hope we got more of tHese kind of stories soon.

P.S. dream Weaver. Damn. That’s a REALLY good name!
